We see it all the time, parents putting themselves last because, well…KIDS! It is so common to hear a mom say, “Work out? I can’t, because I don’t have child care.” So, when Empowered Fitness founder, Shela, reached out with the great idea to partner with SelectSitter to help her busy moms clients make time for the gym, we were sold! As a personal trainer, she hears it all the time and wanted to be able to provide a solution for moms whose only hurdle to self care was child care. Great idea, Shela!
We sat down with Shela to learn more about Empowered Fitness…
Why did you want to partner with SelectSitter?
Because I instantly recognized you could fill a need I can’t! So many women are mothers first and they feel guilt for making time to workout. They feel like they may be neglecting their children if they step away to train. Now they can have their kiddos with them at the gym under skilled supervision! Or for the mom who just doesn’t have the child care to workout, I wanted to make it possible for her to care for herself! Basically I saw the need and wanted to help women have one less reason to meet their health and fitness goals!
Tell us a little about your business model for Empowered Fitness:
I started Empowered Fitness because my passion is fitness! I lost weight myself and changed my life with exercise and nutrition. I quickly realized that I had a more specific desire to help women; to provide the tools and resources I wish I would have had access to at the beginning of my journey. My ultimate drive and goal is to help transform women’s lives through fitness allowing them to realize their true power and capabilities in life
Where can you provide training?
I provide training to women worldwide via online training! But I also offer in-person training through Rage Fitness in Nixa, MO (just a 10 minute drive from Springfield, MO).
What services do you provide?
I offer custom meal plans, goal-focused workouts, cardio programming, accountability, motivation and personal development work both in-person and online to my clients. Online training includes all of the above with weekly check ins via email, text,or FaceTime/Skype. In-person training meets with me weekly (number of times determined by the client). I provide all the above as well as in-person check ins (weekly and monthly), in-gym or home child care (via SelectSitter) and transformation photo shoots to celebrate your progress (via Megan Ashleih Boudoir).
How long have you been a personal trainer?
I have been a personal trainer for 10 years this year! And Empowered Fitness turns 4 this year!
Do you specialize in anything particular?
I specialize in weight loss and life transformations! Specifically, I help empower women to live their potential!

As parents ourselves, we know how hectic parenting can get. It’s why we launched SelectSitter in the first place. But we also know a lot of you have questions about how to get the most out of the SelectSitter app. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of your most commonly asked questions and are now here to give you the answers.
Q: Why can’t I leave a review of a
A: We get this question a lot, and we did consider allowing reviews when
we first launched in 2017. But then we realized that reviews might not be the
best fit in the world of babysitting. This isn’t UBER, and the last thing we
want to do is ruin a sitter’s rating after one bad night. We understand that
sometimes, people just don’t mesh. That’s why instead of reviews, we encourage
parents to give their sitters endorsements. This is a great way to learn what
other parents think and discover if a sitter is a good fit for your needs.
Q: Can I pay my sitter through the app?
A: Yes! We just launched this feature. You can now find, book, and pay your sitter all on the app. We’ll even send you reminders when it’s time to pay your sitter. Just log in, securely enter your payment info, and we’ll handle the rest. Similar to other online payment tools like Venmo, SelectSitter collects a small convenience fee with each payment.
Q: I’m new to SelectSitter and want to
know the best way to find new sitters I can trust.
A: Even in the digital age, nothing beats word of mouth. That’s why we created SelectSitter. We wanted to create a free network of babysitters, so parents could find a sitter they trust without having to call every friend in their contact list. But if you’re new to the app or are unsure about a sitter, you can use the app to message your friends who have booked the sitter you’re considering. So you can review parents’ endorsements of a potential sitter, see who your friends are booking, and message directly with your sitter all through the app.
Q: Can I send babysitting requests to
A: Yes! In fact, you can send out as many requests as you want. We even
recommend doing this. Once you’ve booked a sitter, your other requests will
disappear, so you don’t need to worry about double-booking your night.

Ditch the checkbook, and stop running to the ATM. SelectSitter is rolling out in-app payments!
Hi fellow parents and babysitters! We have some big news here at SelectSitter. We are rolling out in-app payments starting December 10 (postponed to Jan. 2019). That means soon you’ll be able to find, book, and pay your babysitters directly through the app. For all you sitters out there, this means you’ll be able to accept payments right in the app. No more last-minute trips to the ATM, and no more hunting down the checkbook. Just log in to the SelectSitter app and securely enter your payment info. We’ll take care of the rest. We’ll even send you helpful reminders when it’s time to pay your sitter and when you have funds waiting for you in your account.
We’ve been working on this new feature for the last several months. We actually got the idea from all of you! In-app payments has been the No. 1 request we’ve heard from parents and sitters since we launched last November. Now, after some experimenting, we’re ready to answer that request.
