Best Practices for Babysitters

Stop missing out on babysitting business!

For all you babysitters out there, this one’s for you! Chances are, you’re missing out on potential babysitting business, and you don’t even know it. It’s true! While you can’t see the number of unanswered job offers cluttering sitters’ inboxes, we can. So we figured it was time we shared some helpful tips about how to maximize your babysitting business on the SelectSitter app. Ready? Let’s do this!

Tip 1: Blackout days you’re not available

You know how on Airbnb you can see dates when a home or apartment is available? We set up the SelectSitter app to work the same way. That means you can blackout days you know you’re not available to babysit. This saves you time and helps parents who are looking for sitters.

Tip 2: Accept payments through the app

Earlier this year, you can now accept payments for your babysitting hours right in the app. This was the No. 1 request we kept getting from parents and sitters, and it’s been a big help for both. You can track payments and see who still owes you for your time, and get alerts when funds hit your account. If you haven’t set this up in your profile yet, it’s easy. Payments are processed using Stripe—the fastest online payment tool, so create a Stripe account and sync it with the SelectSitter app. We’ll take care of the rest.

Tip 3: Update your profile

Your profile is the first thing parents see, so use it to your advantage! Create a short description about yourself, your interests, and your hobbies. It sounds so simple, but it helps parents feel at ease when they know something about their sitter. Let parents know if you’re still in school, if you nanny full time, if this is just a part-time gig you love, or if you have special training in things like CPR or child care. You can also use your profile to list your daily availability.

Tip 4: Check your requests in the app

This sounds crazy simple, but a lot of sitters are missing out on work because they’re not regularly checking their profile. To ensure you see job requests as soon as they come in, enable notifications on your phone.

Tip 5: The faster you respond to babysitting inquiries, the more likely you are to get the job

Because parents can send babysitting requests to multiple sitters at the same time, it can be a race to accept the gig. If you want to increase your babysitting, be sure to respond to requests as quickly as possible. Once a job is booked, the request goes away, so you don’t waste time wondering if you got the gig.

Parents: you have questions, we have answers!

In-app payments is here! This is babysitting in the digital age.

As parents ourselves, we know how hectic parenting can get. It’s why we launched SelectSitter in the first place. But we also know a lot of you have questions about how to get the most out of the SelectSitter app. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of your most commonly asked questions and are now here to give you the answers.

Q: Why can’t I leave a review of a sitter?

A: We get this question a lot, and we did consider allowing reviews when we first launched in 2017. But then we realized that reviews might not be the best fit in the world of babysitting. This isn’t UBER, and the last thing we want to do is ruin a sitter’s rating after one bad night. We understand that sometimes, people just don’t mesh. That’s why instead of reviews, we encourage parents to give their sitters endorsements. This is a great way to learn what other parents think and discover if a sitter is a good fit for your needs.

Q: Can I pay my sitter through the app?

A: Yes! We just launched this feature. You can now find, book, and pay your sitter all on the app. We’ll even send you reminders when it’s time to pay your sitter. Just log in, securely enter your payment info, and we’ll handle the rest. Similar to other online payment tools like Venmo, SelectSitter collects a small convenience fee with each payment.

Q: I’m new to SelectSitter and want to know the best way to find new sitters I can trust.

A: Even in the digital age, nothing beats word of mouth. That’s why we created SelectSitter. We wanted to create a free network of babysitters, so parents could find a sitter they trust without having to call every friend in their contact list. But if you’re new to the app or are unsure about a sitter, you can use the app to message your friends who have booked the sitter you’re considering. So you can review parents’ endorsements of a potential sitter, see who your friends are booking, and message directly with your sitter all through the app.

Q: Can I send babysitting requests to multiple sitters?

A: Yes! In fact, you can send out as many requests as you want. We even recommend doing this. Once you’ve booked a sitter, your other requests will disappear, so you don’t need to worry about double-booking your night.
