Best Practices for Babysitters

Stop missing out on babysitting business!

For all you babysitters out there, this one’s for you! Chances are, you’re missing out on potential babysitting business, and you don’t even know it. It’s true! While you can’t see the number of unanswered job offers cluttering sitters’ inboxes, we can. So we figured it was time we shared some helpful tips about how to maximize your babysitting business on the SelectSitter app. Ready? Let’s do this!

Tip 1: Blackout days you’re not available

You know how on Airbnb you can see dates when a home or apartment is available? We set up the SelectSitter app to work the same way. That means you can blackout days you know you’re not available to babysit. This saves you time and helps parents who are looking for sitters.

Tip 2: Accept payments through the app

Earlier this year, you can now accept payments for your babysitting hours right in the app. This was the No. 1 request we kept getting from parents and sitters, and it’s been a big help for both. You can track payments and see who still owes you for your time, and get alerts when funds hit your account. If you haven’t set this up in your profile yet, it’s easy. Payments are processed using Stripe—the fastest online payment tool, so create a Stripe account and sync it with the SelectSitter app. We’ll take care of the rest.

Tip 3: Update your profile

Your profile is the first thing parents see, so use it to your advantage! Create a short description about yourself, your interests, and your hobbies. It sounds so simple, but it helps parents feel at ease when they know something about their sitter. Let parents know if you’re still in school, if you nanny full time, if this is just a part-time gig you love, or if you have special training in things like CPR or child care. You can also use your profile to list your daily availability.

Tip 4: Check your requests in the app

This sounds crazy simple, but a lot of sitters are missing out on work because they’re not regularly checking their profile. To ensure you see job requests as soon as they come in, enable notifications on your phone.

Tip 5: The faster you respond to babysitting inquiries, the more likely you are to get the job

Because parents can send babysitting requests to multiple sitters at the same time, it can be a race to accept the gig. If you want to increase your babysitting, be sure to respond to requests as quickly as possible. Once a job is booked, the request goes away, so you don’t waste time wondering if you got the gig.

SelectSitter.jpg

Ditch the checkbook, and stop running to the ATM.  SelectSitter is rolling out in-app payments!

Hi fellow parents and babysitters! We have some big news here at SelectSitter. We are rolling out in-app payments starting December 10 (postponed to Jan. 2019). That means soon you’ll be able to find, book, and pay your babysitters directly through the app. For all you sitters out there, this means you’ll be able to accept payments right in the app. No more last-minute trips to the ATM, and no more hunting down the checkbook. Just log in to the SelectSitter app and securely enter your payment info. We’ll take care of the rest. We’ll even send you helpful reminders when it’s time to pay your sitter and when you have funds waiting for you in your account.

We’ve been working on this new feature for the last several months. We actually got the idea from all of you! In-app payments has been the No. 1 request we’ve heard from parents and sitters since we launched last November. Now, after some experimenting, we’re ready to answer that request.

But first, let’s go over the highlights!

  • We’ll send you helpful reminders to make sure you pay your sitter.
  • We’ll also keep you posted when you have funds waiting for you in your account.
  • Your payment info will be securely stored in the app, which means you can pay your sitter anytime and anywhere.
  • No more trips to the ATM or scrounging up cash for those last-minute babysitting requests.

December 10 can’t get here soon enough! This is babysitting in the digital age.
